Senapati district to enforce ban on plastic bags, bottles under 1 litre

The Forest, Environment & Climate Change Department has notified the public of Senapati district that plastic carry bags and plastic bottles under 1 litre will be banned in the district under the provisions of the Manipur Plastic Policy, 2022.The notification issued by the Senapati Deputy Commissioner has informed all concerned citizens of the district to strictly adhere to the provisions of the Manipur Plastic Policy, 2022 particularly to ban import of plastic carry bags from Myanmar.
The notification has further instructed security personnel especially at check points to seize the banned products.
The notification has stated that carry bags made of virgin or recycled plastic should not be less than 50 (fifty) microns in thickness while manufacture and use of non-recyclable plastic is set to be phased out in two years' time, plastic carry bags and multilayered packaging manufacturing units should ensure marking or labelling of such products and non-woven plastic carry bag should not be less than 60 gram per square meter (GSM).
The Government has placed a ban on use and throwaway plastics and promotion of compostable plastics; using, selling, storing and manufacturing of PET or PETE bottles less than 1 liter capacity for storing drinking water as well as manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of single use plastics (SUP) such as polystyrene and expanded polystyrene commodities including ear buds with plastic sticks, plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, candy sticks, ice-cream sticks, polystyrene (thermocol) for decoration, plates, cups, glasses, cutlery such as forks, spoons, knives, straw, trays, wrapping or packaging films around sweet boxes, invitation cards, and cigarette packets, plastic or PVC banners less than 100 micron and stirrers.
The DC has warned that defaulters will be penalized under relevant provisions of the Manipur Plastic policy, 2022 .
