'Women For Trees' campaign-II begins today

The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has taken up 'Women For Trees' campaign under AMRUT Mitra, which is a collaborative initiative of Atal Mission for Rejuvenation & Urban Transformation 2.0 (AMRUT 2.0) and Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM).
As per a release, the women members of self-help groups (SHGs) under the framework of AMRUT Mitra will take the lead in identification of sites and tree plantation on the theme 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam', which is a heartfelt tribute to mothers.
In Manipur, the campaign is being held under the theme 'Upal Ama Emagi Mingda'.
In Imphal city and Mayang Imphal town, three plantation sites each and three SHGs each have been identified with target number of trees to be planted is about 50 saplings each, while for Nambol and Moirang town, three plantation sites each and three SHGs each have been identified with 70 saplings each targeted for plantation.
The pre-plantation site identification visits (Phase-I) at Imphal and other three towns have been accomplished.
Detailed discussions were made with the members of the SHGs to chalk out the plantation plan.
All the progress/status were uploaded at the AMRUT 2.0 web portal with geo-tagged photographs and also shared at social media handles with appropriate hashtags for outreach and amplification.
According to the release, Phase-II of the campaign will be launched on Thursday, which is also the 'World Environment Day' with tree plantation at Hao Ground, Children Park, Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) Ward No 15.The plantation drive at other sites will commence in subsequent days.
Under the campaign, the sites identified by the SHGs should be preferably around water bodies and parks, which will ensure that the planted tree saplings will have high survival rate.
The SHGs will also be involved in monitoring the trees planted under this campaign.
The goal of 'Women For Trees' is to enhance urban green spaces, improve climate resilience, and create a greener, healthier environment, it informed.
During the first phase of the campaign (Site Identification Drive) held from May 21 to 23, SHG members visited the identified sites for tree plantation in co-ordination with AMRUT 2.0 & DAY-NULM and ULB officials, followed by thorough plan of action for plantation.
In Phase-II (Tree Plantation), which will be from June 5 to 31, the SHG members will undertake large scale plantation drive.
Each sapling planted will be geo-tagged to ensure survivability and effective monitoring.
