103 out of 163 projects completed

Out of 163 projects taken up in the State under Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) during 2014-15, 103 projects have been completed.
This was conveyed during an official meeting where DoNER Secretary Naveen Verma reviewed projects taken up in the State under NLCPR, informed an official source.
Apart from Naveen Verma who arrived here on a two-day official visit to the State, the review meeting held at the conference hall of Old Secretariat was attended by Chief Secretary O Nabakishore and other high ranking relevant officials.
The State Government officials informed the DoNER Secretary that 103 projects which cost Rs 717.88 crore have been completed out of 163 projects taken up in the State under NLCPR whose total estimated cost is Rs 1536.25 crore.
Another 60 projects of total estimated cost Rs 818.37 crore are being executed.
On being informed that most of the projects have been completed by 91 per cent, Naveen Verma hinted that the State may apply for funds for the next phase.
Chief Secretary O Nabakishore, after pointing out that Imphal airport has been upgraded to the level of an international airport, urged Naveen Verma to take up the proposal of operating regular flight service on Chiangmai (Thailand)-Mandalay (Myanmar)-Imphal (Manipur) and Guwahati (Assam) route with the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
In response, Naveen Verma assured that he would take up the proposal with the concerned Ministry, conveyed the source.
The Chief Secretary further pointed out that the State Government, thinking for the posterity, has allotted 330 acres even as the Centre was asking for 200 acres for establishment of a National Sports University in Manipur.
Construction of the sports university may be started on the allotted plot after leaving out just 35 acres which is being contested.
In response, the DoNER Secretary asked for a written assurance that there would be no problem in starting the construction work.
He maintained that the primary task of DoNER Ministry is coordination among Northeastern States and the Central Ministries.
Acknowledging the suitability of large scale plantation of Stevia (plants) to the climate and soil of the North East region, Naveen Verma expressed keen desire for NEDFi to invest money in the region for Stevia plantation in addition to loans being given by different banks.
The meeting also discussed about sanctioning Rs 125 crore for the 400 KV power sub-station being built at Thoubal.
The DoNER Secretary further expressed satisfaction over the dairy project being taken by an NGO called YVU at Thoubal.
After making a field assessment of some projects taken up in the State under DoNER Ministry, Naveen Verma visited Manipur Sangai Festival in the evening.
