Imphal, January 13:
Tangkhul Women demanded to know the truth behind the death of Lantimlawho was brought dead from Guwahati by one Munna Pradhan and his friends on Nov 7, 2002.It was a shocking moment for us to learn from the pages of many local newspapers which portrayed and reported about one Tangkhul girl, Lantimla by name was brought dead in a very suspicious and ugly manner by one Munna Pradhan and his gang members on the 7th of Nov 2002.We were very much disturbed and wanted to take up various actions immediately.
But, we controlled our emotions and remained cool with the expectation that the truth will be revealed by the state government and authorities concerned after the post mortem and the interrogation of the suspects, says a press release issued' by Valley Rose H Hungyo, President, Imphal Shanao Long.
To our dismay, it was learnt that suspects have been released very soon without any proper interrogation nor proper record of their statements.
We are disturbed further to learn that the Investigative Officer of the case was also transferred the next day of the incident.
Above all, we are very unhappy to know that the post mortem result of the case is still concealed by the concerned authorities so long, the release also says.
We want to ask the concerned authorities why the police have not taken up proper case against the suspects.
Why were they released very soon without any remand by the court? Why IO of the case was transferred? Why the doctors who performed the post mortem on the dead of woman still concealed the report? Are we to take it for granted the state government do not take the dead of a woman in such a suspicious manner seriously? Or, is it because the police the doctors and all those concerned responsibility persons are bribed or threatened by the gangster? We, women, especially Tangkhul women want to know the truth, because it is a matter involving the life and death of a woman.
We appeal to the state government to look into the matter seriously and find out the truth and take up the right measure for the sake of the safety of women in the state.
If the state government fails to reveal the truth, it may lead to further worsen the relationship between the hills and the plain people.
