Petrol pumps across valley districts start open sale of fuel

Imphal, August 27 2024: Major fuel filling stations across the valley districts have started selling petrol and diesel from today with the intervention of the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAF & PD) to resolve the fuel crisis which the State has been witnessing.

Notably, the State has been witnessing disruptions in the supply of petrol repeatedly since the onset of the ethnic tension with the primary factor being the increase in extortion activities.

People were seen standing in long lines at all the retail outlets which were opened today from morning till late evening and waiting for their turn to refill their gas tanks.

Those who came to buy fuel were only allowed to refill their gas tanks and those who bought jerry cans and other containers were not allowed to buy extra stock.

The Sangai Express interacted with some people who came to refill their gas tanks at PCTC retail outlet at Khuyathong.

One of them thanked the State Government for taking up a special measure to resume fuel supply across the State.

Make sure the retail outlets are opened everyday and the panic buying will eventually drop, he said, in an appeal to the Government.

Saying that standing in a long line just to buy some litres of fuel is problematic to them as they have other work to attend to, he stated the problem will be resolved if the retail outlets are opened everyday.

A school van driver who was also in line said that the disruption in fuel supply is very problematic to them as they have to pick up and drop students to their respective schools every working day at a specific time.

He also said that they cannot abandon their services because of the unavailability of fuel while appealing to the Government to ensure there is no disruption in fuel supply.
