Imphal, March 18 2015:
Rei-terating their stand against the 'Manipur Regulation of Visitors, Tenants and Migrant Workers Bill, 2015', the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System, has announced an indefinite non-cooperation movement against the non-locals with effect from midnight today.
To give more teeth to their call to protect the indigenous people of the State, JCILPS in a statement urged the people not let out rooms to non-locals, stop buying things from them, stop selling non-indigenous products in the keithels as well as to stop the free movement of non-locals in the lanes and by lanes of the State.
JCILPS in the statement stressed that the non-cooperation movement announced has no element of violence.
It is time for everyone to realise that the time has come for all to start certain measures to protect the indigenous people.

It is within international laws, as backed by the United Nations, to safeguard the indigenous people, said the statement and added that the Constitution of India too endorses the call to protect the indigenous people of the world.
Appealing to the people to extend their co-operation, JCILPS said that the movement will carry on till the aspirations and wishes of the people are achieved.
To make the movement a success, all the component bodies of the JCILPS have been instructed to do the needful, added the statement.
The decision to launch the non-cooperation movement was taken during a meeting held amongst the various civil society organisations today, added the statement.
Turning its ire against the State Government, JCILPS said that for long they have been demanding an appropriate law to protect the indigenous people of the land.
After five months of discussion amongst scholars, political leaders and social activists, the Manipur Regulation of Visitors, Tenants and Migrant Workers Bill was passed in the Assembly.
This is not acceptable, said JCILPS.
