Imphal, December 03 2023: Manipur made light work of Mizoram by 156 runs in the Vijay Merchant Trophy 2023 at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack.

In their first innings, the state squad scored a meagre 132 in 45.2 overs, but still managed to defend that total after bowling out their opponents for 117 in 61.2 overs.

Manipur's performance in their second innings significantly improved as they posted 262 runs before dismissing Mizoram for 121 in 60.3 overs in the latter's second innings to secure a comprehensive win.

The state side's second innings saw Naesh (67), Danish (51), Binson (50), Thomsan (35) and Donba (26) emerge as key contributors, paving the way for their triumph.

After their competitive total, the bowling unit did their part as Kaiku claimed 4 scalps, Danish picked up 3 wickets, and Rain, Y Achouba and Sougaijam chipped in with a wicket each to hand Manipur the victory.

Earlier, Danish and Naesh shone for Manipur, taking 5 wickets each to dismantle Mizoram's batting order in their first innings.
