Poet Khwairakpam Chaoba remembered

The 129th birth anniversary of Manipuri poet Khwairakpam Chaoba Singh was observed under the aegis of Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti, Imphal at Dr Kamal Literary complex, Langthabal Kunja Mayai Leikai, on Tuesday.
The observance function was attended by Sahitya Akademi Manipuri Language Advisory Board convenor Prof Rajen Toijamba and Samiti president Naoroibam Indramani as chief guest and president respectively.
Manipur University vice chancellor (in-charge) Prof S Sanatombi delivered a lecture on Khwairakpam Chaoba as a litterateur and critic.
Floral tributes were also paid as a mark of respect to Khwairakpam Chaoba.
Speaking at the event, general secretary Dr Huirem Tomba Singh informed that Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti, Imphal in its 64 years of existence has been working for the development of Manipuri literature.
The Samiti has also been observing the birth anniversaries of seven poets who were pioneers of modern Manipuri literature.
He further informed that resource persons are engaged to speak on Manipuri literature and the poet concerned during the anniversary observance functions.
The papers presented by the resource persons are compiled and published in the form of souvenir so that it becomes an asset of Manipuri literature.
