Imphal, January 23 2024:
Day after announcing that five battalions of Meetei volunteers are ready to fight the aggression from Kuki militants, social activist Sapam Kangleipal has formally operationalized three battalions of volunteers out of the five on Monday.
At the event held at his home, Kangleipal opened the units of Nongada in Imphal East, Tharoijam in Imphal West and Sikhong Sekmai in Thoubal district.
Speaking on the occasion, Kangleipal maintained that there is no end to the crisis in sight considering the way the government is handling the conflict.
Meetei people are left on their own to defend their villages, which necessitates establishment of volunteer forces.
Stating that the remaining two units will be activated within the current month, he reiterated his demand that the government should issue arms to the volunteers in order to protect the territory of the state.
