Indigenes urged to preserve culture, identity

The State Level Kabui Gaan Ngai-2024, which is being organised by Kabui Union, Manipur commenced from Tuesday at Keishamthong Kabui Kailong under the theme 'Spread love everywhere you go'.
The opening function of the six-day Gaan Ngai-2024 festival was attended by Moirang MLA Th Shanti as chief guest.
Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board vice president Bidyapati Senjam, professor N Joykumar, social scientist Dhanabir Laishram, Federation of Haomi president Sapamcha Jadumani, UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam, Meitei Leepun 'Thouburel' M Pramot, COCOMI spokesperson Khuraijam Athouba, Kabui Customary Council president Kamson Gamumei Kabui and many others also attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Shanti stressed that indigenous communities inhabiting Manipur since time immemorial need to keep intact their respective culture and identity failing which adversary elements will take advantage to exploit the oversight.
He said that Kabui community is one of the oldest indigenous communities of Manipur and appreciated the community's resolve to keep intact its culture and identity.
According to MLA Shanti, people of Moirang have very close affinity with Kabui community and it has been proven by history as the story of Kabui Salang Maiba in Moirang Kangleirol is still known widely.
He also assured of developing the memorial site of Kabui Salang Maiba at Moirang Solongthel.
Regarding the festival, Kabui Union Manipur president Dr Heera Kabui said that Gaan Ngai is a sacred festival for the Kabui community and it signifies the true identity of Kabui people.
He also prayed to the almighty for bringing peace and harmony among different communities with the celebration of Gaan Ngai festival.
