Imphal, October 12 2023:
Displaced people taking shelter in the relief camp set up at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex urged the government not to shift them to other location to facilitate disturbance-free education of their children and until they re-settle in their respective homes.
Speaking to media persons at Khuman Lampak relief camp, one Longjam Basanta informed that 198 people (46 households) from Ikou, Dolaithabi and Sadu Yengkhuman, who were displaced by the conflict are presently taking shelter in the relief camp.
After Kukis started burning Meitei houses in Churachandpur on May 3, their villages were also attacked.
Subsequently, they fled for their lives to safer places at around 7 pm/8 pm.
The displaced people then took shelter at relief camp set up at Naorem Birahari College, he added.
The displaced people who faced tremendous inconveniences while staying at the College camp felt relieved when they were shifted to Khuman Lampak Sports Complex hostel.
The fear among the displaced students that they might not be able to attend classes was also sorted as they got admitted to nearby schools and colleges.
Though not fully satisfied, displaced students now attend classes and some of the children are taking involved in sports, he pointed out.
Stating that information has been received about an order for shifting the displaced people to pre-fabricated houses, he expressed concern that careers of the displaced students who began attending schools and taking part in sports will be at stake.
He further urged to the government to let them stay at Khuman Lampak until they resettle at their respective villages.
