NECCC meet dissects Manipur violence

A meeting of the North East Congress Coordination Committee (NECCC) chaired by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was held on Tuesday in Guwahati, Assam and decided to form a committee to look into the present crisis in Manipur and finding ways to resolve the same.
The committee has Congress representatives from all the North East states with exception of Manipur and Mizoram.
CLP leader O Ibobi Singh, MPCC president K Meghachandra, CWC member Gaikhangam and NECCC secretary Ak Mirabai attended the NECCC meet and apprised party leaders about the prevailing situation in Manipur.
They also strongly advocated for party's responsibility in resolving the more than eight months long violence in Manipur and inclusion of special issues of the North East particularly Manipur in the party's manifesto for the Lok Sabha election.
AICC general secretary KC Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh and Congress leaders of all the North East states took part in the NECCC meet and thoroughly discussed issues of the region.
Congress leaders later suggested forming a committee to look into the present crisis in Manipur and finding ways to resolve the crisis.
Accordingly, a committee was formed without any representative from Manipur and Mizoram.
Congress leaders present at the meeting advised the committee to take up steps at the earliest to resolve the crisis by communicating with both the warring communities.
During the meeting, Rahul Gandhi reportedly said that Manipur crisis is the most important issue at present and the party should work at the best level to resolve the crisis.
Immediately after end of the NECCC meet, all the state Congress leaders returned to Imphal and convened Congress legislators meet and discussed Wednesday's proposed meeting with Arambai Tenggol at Kangla.
The legislators' meet extended till late evening also discussed the prevailing situation in Manipur.
