Ex-MLA Paolen Haokip passes away

Paolen Haokip, who had served the State as an MLA right from the time when Manipur was a Territorial Council till it gained statehood, passed away yesterday.
He was 95 .
The last rites of the deceased was held at his home place in Saitu today where Outer MP Thagso Baite; IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip, members of various Kuki NGOs and CSOs took part in the funeral service.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Ngamthang Haokip described Paolen Haokip as a very imminent and important person among the Kuki brethrens.
"Paolen Kuki was not only an MLA but also the leader of Kuki National Assembly, a political party.
His demise is not only a loss to his family members but also to the whole society", the Minister observed.

Paolen Haokip was the eldest son of late Luntong Haokip.
He joined Indian National Congress in 1957 and remained as a loyal congressman till 1973.Right from the time when Manipur was a Territorial Council, he served the people as the MLA of Churachandpur from 1957 to 1972 .
And after Manipur attained Statehood, he was elected as an MLA from Saitu A/C in 1973 .
