Manipuri girl tops Nagaland HSLC exam

Manipuri girl Delphi Oinam topped the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination, 2022 conducted by Nagaland Board of School Education, the result of which was declared on Tuesday.
Delphi Oinam secured 595 marks out of the total of 600 and scored 99.17 percent in the examination and topped in three subjects namely Mathematics, Alternative English and Foundation of Information Technology.
She is a student of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Dimapur.
Delphi is the second daughter out of three children bom to Oinam Bhopen Singh and Sharungbam Second Chanu of Sangakpham Bazar, Chingmeirong.
Delphi Oinam has an elder sister and a younger brother.

Delphi Oinam's father Bhopen is currently working as assistant professor at ICFAI University, Nagaland while her mother Second Chanu is a teacher of MGM Higher Secondary, Dimapur and the family has been settling in Dimapur for around 18 years now.
In an exclusive interview, Delphi Oinam told The People's Chronicle that she being a Meetei was elated when she heard the news of her topping the Nagaland state board examination and she always follow traditions of Manipur and would never forget the motherland.
According to Delphi Oinam, she was confident of securing a position but never thought of topping the examination.
Aspiring to become a doctor, Delphi said she would continue her study in Nagaland and give entrance examination for MBBS.
Recounting some hard times she faced during COVID-19 pandemic, Delphi said that she found the online classes most tiresome, which were conducted during the height of Covid pandemic, as her school remained closed.
The topper also said that she could not consult teachers and ask queries to them during online classes owing to poor mobile network.
However, her parents being teachers taught her well on critical questions, she said, adding that she had taken no tuition and there is no tuition culture in Nagaland though some students do consult with private tutors.
About her preparation for the exam, Delphi Oinam said that she had no specific timing for reading books but she always studies sincerely whenever she wants.
She also said that she studies for around four hours daily and increased some hours when exam approached.
She then advised students to read books sincerely and regularly as this will give confidence in moving towards the path of success.
