EMA Trust holds health awareness prog for IDPs

Along with distributing sanitary items, Egalitarian Manipur of the Altruists (EMA) Trust organised an awareness programme on mental health, menstrual hygiene and cyber security for the internally displaces persons (IDPs) staying in the relief camp opened at Ideal Girl's College, Akampat, on Sunday.
The programme conducted for the violence-affected children aged 14 to 20 years in collaboration with Imphal East district administration was attended by Social Welfare joint secretary Bantee Konthoujam and EMA vice president Rk Bidyaluxmi as chief guest and president respectively.
EMA Life Skill educator Liklaileima Ningombam, secretary Khwairakpam Oken and entrepreneur Phurailatpam Umakanta were also present at the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Bantee Konthoujam commended the initiative of EMA in making the IDPs aware about mental health, menstrual hygiene and cyber, while expressing that the programme will help the children participants get acquainted with mental health, maintain menstrual hygiene and on how to defend oneself or staying away from cyber related irregularities.
According to Rk Bidyaluxmi, apart from providing daily and immediate needs to the inmates of relief camps, EMA is also taking up steps to facilitate the violence-hit families staying in relief camps earn decent income and help them further education of their children.
The programme organised on Sunday has been initiated with the primary objective of enabling relief camp residents to come out of the mental trauma following the crisis and to help the students concentrate on their studies.
It also aimed to enable the adolescent girls to take care of their physical health during the time of adolescence and also to handle with cyber related crimes, she said while adding that the awareness programme will also be organised in other relief camps.
Notebooks, pencils, erasers and other stationery items, baby diapers and sanitary pads were also distributed during the function.
