Imphal, January 23 2024: One house was ravaged by an inferno at Nongmeibung Chakpram Leirak, Imphal East district at around 6 pm today.

The house belongs to one Laishram Prem.

Prem and his brothers are living together in the house. While the first floor made of wood was completely ravaged by the inferno, the ground floor made of brick and concrete was also badly damaged.

Fire tenders of Manipur Fire Service and people of the neighbourhood managed to douse the inferno at around 7.30 pm and thus the neighbouring houses and structures were saved.

It is suspected that the inferno was caused by electric short circuit.

Although the exact monetary value of the destruction caused by the inferno has not been worked out, it is estimated that properties worth several lakhs have been destroyed.
