Imphal, October 12 2023:
Highlighting the contributions of Meitei Pangals to the history of Manipur since their settlement in the land, AMUCO president Pheiroijam Nando Luwang has appealed to the Meitei Pangal community to carry on the same legacy.
Speaking at the 15th foundation day of Pangal Students' Organisation, Manipur (PSOM), held today at Lilong Higher Secondary School, Thoubal, the AMUCO president appealed to the Meitei Pangal community to take pro-active roles in safeguarding the integrity of Manipur.
Nando said that the Meitei Pangals joined military service under the kings of Manipur since the days of Meidingu Loiyumba, and they share a very close bond with the Meiteis.

"I'm not saying this out of nowhere just because Meitei Pangals were born to Meitei women", Nando said.
Meitei Pangals have been taking momentous roles in protecting Manipur.
They took active part in the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891, he said.
It was a Meitei Pangal by the name of Jasu Sadar who gave prior information to Yubraj Tikendrajit that the British troops were preparing for an attack on the Manipur palace in the intervening night of March 24 and 25, 1891 .
In the course of a massive civil movement which erupted in 1997 for protection of the State's integrity from all challenges, Nawaj Khan and Jamaruddin of Yairipok Singga Heirong were mowed down by a vehicle as they took part in a protest demonstration.
Thus they laid down their lives for the cause of Manipur, Nando recalled.
"Today too, there are many non-local men who have married Meitei women.
But we cannot say of these non-local men that they too are contributing to the cause of Manipur", he said.
Remarking that Meitei Pangals have been taking major roles in all movements of Manipur, the AMUCO president said that Meiteis should never overlook or forget the contributions of Meitei Pangals as well as the rewards given by kings to Meitei Pangals for capturing wild animals.
He said that the contributions of Meitei Pangals will always remain well documented in the history of Manipur.
He appealed to the Meitei Pangal community not to let themselves be misguided or misled by provocative statements made by some elements who do not understand the history of Manipur.
He urged them to cherish the idea of Manipur, instead.
Lilong Higher Secondary Madrassa Principal W Rameshor Singh, PSOM president Farid Bogimayum, MSF president Hijam Roshan, PSOM advisors Kh Serajuddin and Ajijur Pukhrimayum were also present at the function.
