Dog trainer on mission to benefit society

Imphal, July 13, 2013: Dogs are regarded as man's best friends and if properly trained they could serve the people at their best level and to the benefit of the society.

It is with this motive that Konsam Nandakishore, a well-known dog trainer, is all set to train as many dogs as he can with a missionary zeal for the welfare of the people and the society as a whole.

So far, Nandakishore has trained more than 1000 dogs.

He is presently running a Dog Training Centre at Tangkham Mamang Leikai.

Some of the dogs trained by him are even being used in Manipuri film industries.

Interacting with Hueiyen Lanpao, Nandakishore observed that most people rear dogs for guarding their houses.

But a well-trained dog can not only guard the houses and protect the properties of the owner, but can also give company to the owner in times of need.

Nandakishore, who once worked as a Constable in the Manipur Police Department, informed that during his service in the Manipur Police Department, he had received Dog handler Training at the BSF Academy in Tikanpur, Madhya Pradesh, and with the knowledge gained from the training, he worked Dog Scout Team of the Manipur Police Department.

After taking voluntary retirement from service in 2001, Nandakishore started training dogs at his home at Tangkham Mamang Leikai.

But it was only in 2007 that he opened his Dog Training Centre.

Nandakishore recalled that he had trained a number of dogs including German Shepherd, Lebardo, Rottweiler and Doberman.

He normally charges a monthly fee of Rs 4000 from the owners for training their dogs.

The training is done for three months during which the dogs are given training on Guarding and Basic Obedience.

�Apart from giving training on Guarding and Basic Obedience, dogs can also be trained as tracker dog, explosive dog, Narcotic dog, anti-smuggler dog, etc.

However, these training facilities cannot be provided in his training centre as it is a privately run one.

It requires support from the State Government in order to provide these types of trainings to the dogs�, Nandakishore explained.

He also pointed out that the people of the State have failed to protect and preserve indigenous dog breeds like �Meitei Hui�, �Tangkhul Hui�, which are very sensitive apart from being one of the best kinds of dog breeds.

These indigenous dog breeds are on the brink of extinction today due to the inflow of other varieties of dog breeds from outside, he expressed concern, adding that cross breeding of dogs should not be done without the approval of Kennel Club of India.
