Imphal, February 11 2024:
While welcoming the State Cabinet's decision to hold the 5th session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly from February 28, the Imagi Meira has appealed to the State Government not to hold the session just for name's sake, only to hoodwink the public.
Speaking to media persons at their Tera Keithel office today, Imagi Meira convenor Thokchom Sujata said that they submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N Biren yesterday to bring forward the proposed Assembly session by some days.
The tripartite Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement involving the Government of India, Government of Manipur and Kuki militant groups would be expiring by the end of February.

"Before the term of SoO expires, the State Assembly needs to adopt a resolution and forward it to the Centre Government.
That was why we appealed to the Government to bring forward the Assembly session by some days," Sujata said.
SoO agreement is one major factor which has been fanning the widespread violence in Manipur.
There are photographs of armed Kuki militants sitting/standing on army vehicles by taking undue advantage of SoO, she said.
The State Assembly must take a concrete decision on SoO otherwise Imagi Meira will consider that the forthcoming Assembly is just a token session aimed at hoodwinking the public, she added.
