Gaan Ngai celebrated at Keishamthong Kabui Khul

The post-harvest festival of Gaan Ngai was celebrated at Keishamthong Kabui Khul today accompanied by traditional rituals and customs of the Kabui community.
The celebration was graced by Moirang MLA Th Shanti; Dr K Heera Kabui, president, Kabui Union Manipur; Kamei Amu Kabui, Khullakpa, Keishamthong Kabui Kailong; social activist Dr Dhanabir Laishram; Sapamcha Jadumani, president, Federation of Haomee; M Pramot, Chief, Meitei Leepun and Khuraijam Athouba, spokesperson, IPSA as the chief guest, functional president and guests of honour.
As per the customs of the Kabui community, the rituals of 'Hoi Laoba', 'Meiba Chingba' and 'Yupan Thaba' were performed one after the other.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Th Shanti lauded the Kabui community while stating that they are an indigenous group who have continued to adhere to their native traditions, customs and faith.
When a community loses its identity, it is on its way to degradation.
All indigenous communities of Manipur should adhere to their customs and traditions in recognition of this fact, said the MLA.
He also pointed out the legend of Kabui Salang Maiba, who is well known in the folklore and mythology of Moirang.
Further, he assured to urge the Chief Minister to undertake efforts to preserve the folklore of the Kabui Salang Maiba.
Meanwhile, Dr K Heera Kabui said that Gaan Ngai is a sacred festival for the Kabui community and expressed hope for peace and normalcy to return in Manipur with the arrival of Gaan Ngai.
