X Polo Club clinch title of 8th Red Shield Division Polo Tournament

X Polo Club got better of MPSC-B 5-2 today to emerge champions of the 8th Red Shield Division Polo Tournament organised at Mapal Kangjeibung, Imphal.
A total of 15 teams contested for top honours in this prestigious tournament.
Maj Gen U Suresh Kumar, YSM, VSM, General Officer Commanding, Red Shield Division, H Deleep Singh, IAS, Commissioner, Higher Education & Social Welfare And president, Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association, Suresh Babu, Additional Chief Secy (H), Brigadier SKS Chauhan, Dy GOC, HQ 57 Mtn Div graced the occasion, as the chief guest, president and the guests of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion H Deleep Singh, Manipur Horse Riding And Polo Association complemented the army for sponsoring the event and extending support in promoting traditional Manipuri sport and culture.
The chief guest Maj Gen U Suresh Kumar, YSM, VSM, General Officer Commanding, Red Shield Division complemented all the participants for their splendid performance in the tournament and said that he was glad that Red Shield Division was lending a helping hand to young polo players in whom he sees a lot of potential.
He assured the people of Manipur of the continued support from the army for promotion of traditional sports in the future.
He also said that the tournament would have helped in discovering new talent amongst the youth and above all taught us the values of courage, team work and dignity in victory or defeat.
The impressive closing ceremony which was witnessed by a large number of army personnel and locals of the state included a breathtaking Motor Cycle Rider display by the team of Army Service Corps which was specially invited from Bangalore for the ceremony and also splendid performance of Araambai and Sagol Kangjei organised by Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association.
However, sky diving display by troops of Indian Army failed to impressed the spectators as few divers fell short and landed outside the field.
The final match saw X Polo Club, Wangkhei take full control of the game right from the beginning.
They took over the first chukker with a 3-0 lead with the goals scored by L Atangba, P Ojit and Th Jacob.
P Ojit added another goal in the second chukker to make it 4-0.Ojit added another goal in the third chukker to give his team a 5-0 lead but T Pradeeepkumar of MPSC-B scored two goals, one each in the third and the fourth chukker to finished the game 2-5 .
The winners team, X Polo Club walked away richer by Rs 40,000 along with the winners' trophy while the runners up team were handed Rs 30,000 along with a trophy.
