Imphal, February 18 2018:
Villagers of Marangching have expressed strong suspicion that DC Tamenglong in cahoots with officials and individuals swindled a huge amount of land compensation for villagers affected by Tupul-Imphal railway work in Noney district.
Addressing a press meet held at the village today, secretary of the village, Gongchalung Gangmei suspected that a certain land compensation amount out of Rs 36 crore has been siphoned off by DC Tamenglong in collusion with two officials and two individuals of the village.
He conveyed that a compaint has been lodged with the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Tamenglong to initiate legal proceedings against them.
He said that an agreement was signed with the villagers and the Governemnt in 2006 wherein both the parties agreed to provide land compensation as per the Court's order over a land dispute.
He alleged that DC Tamenglong without the Court's order and with the possession of forged documents issued two orders permitting compensatory award for two villagers namely Kh Lovejoy and Thuankulung Gangmei.
The orders were issued on June 15 and 16, 2017, he claimed.
He said that the DC realising his wrongdoing wrote a letter to UBI authority asking to freeze the compensatory amount.
Later it came to light that Kh Lovejoy had already withdrawn Rs 36 crore, he mentioned.
Taking part in the press meet, chief of the village, Namronlung Gondaimei termed the statement made by chief of Pungmonchingchen, B Sanongba which was published in media yesterday as misleading.
He said that Pungmon village was adopted by some vested persons who were ostracised by villagers of Haochong while Chingchen village is an exile village.
He termed the act of chief of Pungmonchingchen village as an attempt to encroach the land belonging to Marangching.
He said that cases in this regard are still pending in the concerned Courts.
He also termed the claim made by Kh Lovejoy that he is a genuine villager of Pungmonchingchen and that he was awarded land compensation as a land ownership as baseless and fabricated.
Contending that the verbal attack launched against him and secretary of the village by one Gaijinlung Kamei through media maligns the image of the village, he said that action will be taken up against the individual.
He said that execution of project works taken up in and around the village came to a grinding halt due to the bandh imposed by the villagers of Marangching over the impasse of the land compensation.
