Venuzo Dawhuo, Visedelhou Chusi emerge champions at State Level Indigenous Open Wrestling Competition

Senapati, September 28 2018:
Venuzo Dawhuo and Visedelhou Chusi were crowned champions of State Level Indigenous Open Wrestling Competition, 2018 held at Senapati in the 65 kg and above and below 65 kg categories respectively.
The competition which got underway since September 25 with 113 wrestlers concluded today in a grand manner at Mini Stadium, Senapati.
The valedictory function was graced by Somorjit Salam, IAS, DC, Senapati as the chief guest and M Pradeep Singh, IPS, SP, Senapati as the guest of honour in the presence of various CSOs of the district.
Speaking on the occasion, Somorjit Salam, IAS said that the event is celebrating traditions amongst modernity in the present world.
He also added that such event would inculcate the desire of every young and able man to stay healthy and the spirit of winning.
The DC also extended a warm welcome to those who represented Nagaland and urged to build a cordial relationship between the two States besides wishing best of luck in the remaining matches.
Quarter finals, semifinals and finals of both light weight of below 65 kg and heavy weight of above 65 kg weight were played during the day.
Venuzo Dawhuo of Thenyizu village (Chakhesang Tribe) under Phek District, Nagaland was crowned the championship title of the 65 kg and above category while Vechita Khesoh of Yoruba village (Chakhesang Tribe) under Phek District, Nagaland bagged the first runners up.
NLumrai of Mpai village (Zeliang Tribe) under Peren District, Nagaland bagged the 2nd runners up and Seketoukho Nipu of Sechu Zubza village (Angami Tribe) under Kohima district, Nagaland bagged the Fourth prize.
Mention may be made that Vechita Khesoh, the first runners up of the competition was the heaviest among all wrestlers weighing 124 kg.
In the light weight category (65 kg and below), Visedelhou Chusi, 21 years old of Mezoma village (Angami Tribe) under Kohima district, Nagaland clinched the title beating B Reipou of Saranamai village (Poumai Naga tribe) under Senapati district, Manipur Sapunii Thaovei of Maiba village (Poumai Naga tribe) under Senapati district bagged the second runners up and Hrangaolou Liimai of Phuba Khuman village (Poumai Naga tribe) under Senapati district, Manipur finished fourth.
Cash prizes amounting Rs 1,00,000; Rs 70,000; Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000 were awarded to the champion, first runners up, second runners up and fourth position of both categories .
4 consolation prizes of Rs 5,000 each were also handed out to the wrestlers.
Venuzo Dawhuo, the champion of the heavy weight category (65 kg and above), who would be turning to 22 years old next month firstly thanked God for the opportunity to be crowned as the champion and said that he would aim for international level in the belt wrestling competition in the coming days.
The 4 days event was organized by the Senapati District Wrestling Association, Manipur (SDWAM) and hosted by the Viewland Veteran Club.
A record attendance of more than 5 thousand curious spectators gathered at the final day of the competition.
