SSU, Singjamei outplayed PYC, Phoudel 3-0 to overtake NISA, Thangmeiband atop the points table of the 3rd manipur State League football tournament on goal difference after the reigning champions suffered 4-2 defeat against NEROCA, Sangakpham as four second leg matches of the competition were played at two different venues today.
At THAU ground, SSU humbled the Phoudel side on a hattrick from L Tiken (61st, 63rd, 91st) while the other match at the same venue between MPSC and ESU, Wangkhei ended on a goalless stalemate.
The win put SSU at par with NISA on 27 points each but the former occupied the top spot with a better goal average.
SSU had defeated PYC 2-1 in the first leg tie while the police side had scrapped past ESU by a solitary goal.
At ESU ground, NISA paid dearly for missing two penalty awards as the eventual winners rallied from a goal to collect maximum points from the game.
N Jimmy and S Herojit were the culprits for the Thangmeiband side who had defeated NEROCA 3-1 in the first leg match.
After M Ashok conceded an own goal to help NISA open the score, Ksh Malemnganba equalised six minutes later and extended the lead with a 34th minute strike.
Goals from L Nabachandra (59th) and H Amarjit (64th) further cushioned the lead to 4-1 while S Manimohan pulled back one for the losers in the 84th.In the other match at the same venue, AMOFA, Moirang blanked TRAU, Kwakeithel 2-0 with N Herojit (78th) and M Nobin (82nd) slamming home the goals.
The first leg match between the two had ended on a 1-1 draw.
