HPYC, Hayel came from behind to wrest the title of the 5th Th Birachandra Singh State Level Junior Football Championship on a 3-2 victory over NESU, Khurai in a fiercely contested final at Taobungkhok Makha Leikai ground today.
Prakash struck only six minutes into the game which the Khurai side preserved till the break while the change of ends saw a resurgent HPYC restore parity through Th Chingthang who slammed home in the 44th minute after the rival custodian failed to collect cleanly.
M Suranjoy, who was pivotal in the Hayel equaliser struck the second goal three minutes later only to see the Khurai side neutralise the lead on Seiboi's 64th minute goal.
However, Suranjoy rescued his side again when his well flighted corner kick hit the NESU upright and landed near an unmarked O Dara who only had to tap home the match-winner in the 66th minute.
The champions recieved the top cash prize of Rs 10,000 with NESU having to content with half the amount.
With eight goals in the eight-team competition, O Dara won the highest scorer title, with NESU's Herojit bagging the best player crown and Bishwarjit of ESU named the best goal-keeper.
WSU, Taobungkhok was declared the best disciple team.
All the awards carried Rs 500 each.
