Syed Mushtaq Ai Trophy : Manipur kick off campaign with 6-wicket win against Meghalaya

Imphal, January 11 2021:
Manipur kicked off its plate group campaign of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on a bright note by beating North East rivals Meghalayaby 6 wickets today in Chennai.
Manipur won the toss of the match which was delayed due to wet ground conditions and opted to field first.
Due to the delay, both innings were reduced to 13 overs.
Bowling first, Manipur had a bright start with Rajkumar Rex Singh inflicting early damage to Meghalaya by dismissing openers Punit Bisht and Yogesh Tiwari for 1 run each.
Meghalaya further slumped as Dippu Sangma got run out for 3 with 13 runs on the scoreboard in 4.5 overs.
Dwaraka Ravi Teja however managed to anchor the innings well with 35 runs off 31 balls and helped Meghalaya post a total of 62 runs for all wickets down as his batting partners on the other end fell easy prey to Bishorjit Konthoujam and L Kishan Singha.
Following Rex's suit Bishorjit Konthoujam and L Kishan Singha also claimed 2 wickets each while Ajay Lamabam picked a wicket for 20 in 3 overs.
Kishan Thokchom too helped Manipur keep Meghalaya batting line up under pressure and spared only 4 runs in his spell of two overs.
Like Meghalaya, Manipur also started on a rough note with Prafullomani getting out for a duck before losing Karnajit on 2 .
However, Narasingh Yadav's (33 off 31 balls) and Nitesh Sedai's (24 off 27 balls) unbeaten stand helped steer Manipur to 66 for the 6 wicket win with 5 balls left to play.
Meghalaya's Dipu Sangma and Akash Choudhary claimed qne wicket each in this innings.
Manipur will play Chandigarh in the next plate group match on January 13 .
