Imphal East overwhelmed Chandel 2-0 to wrest the title of the All Manipur Assam Rifles Football Tournament, which concluded at Khuman Lampak Main stadium today.
Final match of the nearly a month-long competition was held in the presence of IGAR (S) Maj Gen CA Krishnan and Commissioner (YAS) L Lakher as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
While Th Roshan opened the Imphal East score in the 40th minute, Md Aulat ensured his team walk home with the top honour and cash prize of Rs 50,000 scoring the decisive goal in the 75th minute.
Runners-up Chandel were awarded Rs 30,000 while joint third-place finishers Ukhrul and Churachandpur were handed Rs 10,000 each.
N Bijoy Anand of Imphal East was adjudged the best player, Ankhesh of Chandel was declared the best goal-keeper with both scorers of the final match presented Rs 2500 each as joint best goal scorer winner.
Speaking at the closing ceremony Maj Gen Krishnan announced that the tournament would be an annual affair and shall aim to promote and encourage sports among the youth of Manipur.
The tournament organised under the aegis of HQs IGAR (S) and assisted by AMFA officials was participated by 13 teams from all the districts and sub-division.
