With no fish to woo the people, this year's fish fair cum fish crop competition (organized every year by the state fisheries department on the eve of Ningol Chakouba concluded at Hatta Kang jeibung, Palace Compound.
People thronging to buy fish had to return with out buying any fish.
Even though Pengba, which is in high demand was on sale, only small seized ones were displayed in the fair.
Indigenous Ngakra and prawn were displayed but only for exhibition and not for sale.
Ngakra was displayed for show in a tub .
The owner was a fish farmer from Kondompokpi.

The biggest fish displayed in the fair today was a grass carp weighting 3.5 kg.
Fish of other kinds displayed in the fair were below 3 kg.
A total of 110 kg of Ngaton, 560 kg of Pengba and 100 kg of prawn were displayed in the stalls.
However, an official of the fisheries department observed that a total of 51,428 kg of fish was sold against the targeted 50,000 kg.
In the competition section, fish farmer Panganbam Jiban representing Imphal east district won the first prize.
He produced 9,835 kg of fish.
Salam Dhaballo of Bishnupur district and Soibam Surchand of Imphal west were the second and third position holders in the competition.
Fisheries minister, Md Allauddin explained that 70 percent of the fish farms failed due to floods this year.
Except some farms in Bishnupur and Imphal west, all other farms failed to produce fish this year.
He was speaking as chief guest in the opening function of the fair.
He said that out of the total requirement of 27 metric tonnes of fish a year for consumption in the state, fish farmers are producing only 19 metric tonnes.
The shortfall is made up by importing fish from outside the state.
To overcome the shortage, farmers need to apply scientific methods of fish farming.
The opening function of the fish fair cum fish crop competition was presided by MLA M Prithivraj.
MLAs Y Surchandra, Imphal east DC, M Luxmikumar and fisheries director K Saratkumar attended as guests of honour.
Md Allauddin further asserted that last year government allocated Rs 80,000 to Fisheries Department as its annual outlay but this year, the same has been hiked to ' 3.15 crore.
The budget allocation is not a huge one as maximum amount is spent in the payment of monthly salaries of employees.
