Dominating proceedings on Day-I of the 9th North East Zone Sport Climbing Competition at Kangla rock and sport Climbing Wall, climbers of the host State grabbed four top titles besides adding three silver and a bronze medal to its kitty today.
Competitions are being held for both male and female climbers in open, junior, Youth A and Youth B categories.
In junior boys final, Salam Surchandra reached the top with a timing of 2: 24.62 relegating his Statemate Leishangthem Imo to second place (top/2:41.51) as Meghalaya's Master Florentius managed 27 holds to occupy the third spot.
Topping the competition in the junior girls section with a timing of 3:36.17 to reach top of the wall, Senjam Devola added the second top honour to the hosts' tally as Sarangthem Landhoni Chanu faltered in the 15th hold to chip in a silver medal pipping Ibakordshisha Mary Savian of Meghalaya (14/3:54.59).The third top finish of the day came in the Youth A final where S Beckham scaled the 19th hold in 1.43:48 to upstage Millo Rikah of Arunachal Pradesh whose attempt for the same hold missed.
Overland Saitang of Meghalaya had to settle for the third position on 14 holds in 3:09:65.The hosts ended the day clean sweeping the Youth A girls final where Ph Sushirani topped the field firmly gripping the 26th hold in 3:20.63 before her fall in attempting the 27th.S Ashangbi with 24 holds in 4:08:51 clinched the second position while Th Reshma had to content with the third place on 15 holds in 2:13.66.Earlier, the competition was inaugurated by MLA Manga Vaiphei as the chief guest who also donated Rs 20,000 to the organisers while chairman of organising committee N Ibungochoubi presided over the programme.
Climbers from Meghalaya, Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh besides the host State are taking part in the four day competition.
