Thokchom clinched a gold
medal each on the final day of
the 33rd Sub-Junior and Junior
National Aquatic
Championship, organised by
the Swimming Federation of
India, today at Bangalore.
Hiren Sagolsem won his
third gold medal of the cham-
pionship today in the 100 m
freestyle Boy's Group-4 com-
petition.

Another young State swimmer Mahananda Thokchom also grabbed a gold medal in the Boy's Group-4 50 m breaststroke event.
Mahananda Thokchom hails from Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai and is the son of Thokchom Inaocha Singh and Thokchom (O) Rashini Devi and he is currently studying in Class 7 at Pitambara English School.
Altogether Manipur have won 5 gold and one bronze medal in the said champion- ship in which Hiren Sagolsem has won 3 gold and 1 bronze while Yaiphabi Thoudam and Mahananda Thokchom bagged a gold medal each.
Maharashtra with 258 points emerged the overall team champion.
In the said championship seven new National records were set in the boy's group while the girl's group wit- nessed four new National records.
In the swimming event, Assam and Karnataka with 82 and 71 points respectively clinched the Boy's Group-3 and Group-4 title while Maharashtra claimed both the Girl's Group-3 and 4 titles with 121 and 80 points re- spectively.
In the diving competition, Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) with 34 and 30 points respectively won the Boy's Group-1 and 2 titles while the Group-3 title went to Maharashtra (25 points).
Meanwhile, Maharashtra with 27, 25 and 30 points emerged the champions of Girl's Group-1, 2 and 3 com- petitions.
In the individual prize dis- tribution, Swadesh Mandal was named the best swimmer in the Boy's Group-3 event.
Swadesh broke 3 National record in the said champion- ship.
The best swimmer title for Boy's Group-4 event went to Vitesh S Shanker of Karnataka, he won three gold medals in the championship.
Vetika Amin and Nadai K of both Maharashtra clinched the Girl's Group-3 and 4 events respectively.
Vetika won two gold med- als while Nadai bagged a gold and a silver medal.
