Manipuri language

Imphal, May 16 2016:
As of now, the Government of India has no
plan to inscribe Manipuri language in different denominations of
Indian currency notes.
This was conveyed by Union Finance
Minister Arun Jaitley to MP Dr Thokchom Meinya on April 5 this
year.
Since Manipuri language was listed in the 8th Schedule of
the Indian Constitution on August 20, 1990, both the Govern-
ment of India and the Reserve Bank of India were being urged
to inscribe Manipuri language (Meitei Mayek) on currency
notes but to no avail so far, decried a press release issued by
the Manipuri Language Development Committee.
