Tokay geckos released

Imphal, August 14 2016:
Two rare and endangered live Tokay Geckos
were released at Langol Reserved Forest under the supervision
District Wildlife Warden, Bishnupur on August 9 .
The Tokay Geckos were recovered from the illegal posses-
sion of Ningthoujam Kunjo Singh, s/o L N Surjit of
Terakhongshangbi Maning Leikai by the police on Aug 1.
They were handed over to the Wildlife Officials on Aug 2.
The geckos were released following the order of CJM,
Bishnupur, and permission granted by Chief Wildlife Warden,
Divisional Forest Officer and District Wildlife Warden,
Bishnupur Debala Leiphrakpam said.
The CJM has imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Kunjo.
Tokay Geckos are protected under the Schedule 4 of Wild-
life Protection Act 1972.
The seized gecko was released in the presence of Divi-
sional Forest Officer, Wildlife K Shital Meetei, Honorary
Wildlife Warden, Bishnupur District RK Birjit, secretary of
the Global Science Club, Khoijuman, L Gopal Sharma, wild-
life activist E Premjit and other officials of the Divisional
Forest Officer.
