45th climbing course

The 45th Sport Climbing Course organised by Manipur Mountaineering & Trekking Association (MMTA) for one week began today at Kangla Artificial Climbing Wall, Minuthong.
The course was opened by N Ibungochoubi, President, MMTA.
The course is also a preparation for the State and North East Zonal Level Sport Climbing Championships, which will be held in the months of September and October respectively, a statement said.
Later, the Chief Instructor of the Course, Ph Khelendra said that the Sports Climbing Event is becoming a very popular sport in Manipur as it will be included in the Tokyo Olympic Games, 2020.He said that the climbers have been excelling in the Sport Climbing Event at the National and International Championships.
The present Kangla Climbing Wall is of obsolete design and there is the need for "State -of-the-art Climbing Wall" to improve the performance of the climbers.
"If we are to win medals at the Olympic Games 2020, we need to start working now in a modern training infrastructure and new climbing wall" he said.
