Imphal, March 29 2018:
The All Jiribam Tribal Union
has expressed dissatisfaction
against the district authority
Jiribam for imposing certain
rules for Aadhaar enrolment,
which is against the criteria
given by the Government of
India, conveyed a press release
issued by president of All
Jiribam Tribal Union.
It stated that many tribal
citizens of Jiribam (with their
voter IDs) went to the DC's
office for enrolment, considering the ongoing verification
drives in the State.
However,
they were sent back many
times for not producing documents like Permanent
Residential Certificate, Electricity bills, Domicile etc, it
added.
On hearing their grievances, the union sent their
representatives along with
some villagers to the DC's
office today where they were
allegedly not permitted to enrol for Aadhar again.
"80 per cent of tribal village have been paying hill
house tax and not a Pattadar.
Thus, many tribals are facing
difficulties of acquiring PRC
and Domicile", the union
said.
It stated that many tribal
residents do not get any electricity connection as such it
is impossible to produce
electricity bills.
The All Jiribam tribal union further condemned the ill
treatment meted out to the
innocent citizens of jiribam
and appealed the district authority to look into the matter
and take up remedial measures for the welfare of the
tribal people in Jiribam at the
earliest.
"Different tribal villagers
have been residing in the district for more than 100 years
but their rights are easily infringed ", it asserted.
The union will take a
strong stand to protect the
rights and interests of tribal
people in the district and cautioned that it would launch
intense agitations till the matter is addressed by the
authority concerned.
