Imphal, January 12 2020:
CPI Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC) has demanded the State Government to ensure the immediate and unconditional release of Laishram Sotinkumar (CPI MSC State secretary).
Speaking to media persons at Irawat Bhavan today, CPI MSC assistant secretary Kh Surchand Singh said that Sotinkumar was arrested by police on December 20 last year, following the peaceful general strike called by Left parties the day before (December 19).Labelling Sotinkumar's arrest as arbitrary and of robbing his personal liberty and rights, Surchand said that many have been pressuring the Government to release Sotinkumar till date.
He continued that levelling sedition charges against Sotinkumar is completely illogical and added that Sotinkumar's family has even complained to the Governor and Manipur Human Rights Commission.
Accusing the present Government of ruling with an iron hand, he once again condemned the arrest of the CPI MSC State secretary at the highest term.
Sotinkumar's wife L (O) Bedamani also condemned the arrest of her husband and informed that various human right bodies are planning to write an appeal to the National Human Rights Commission and the United Nations to secure the release of her husband.
On the other hand, CPI (Marxist) Manipur State Committee State secretary Ksh Shanta demanded the State Government to immediately release L Sotinkumar without any condition.
He said that the charges levelled against Sotinkumar are inhumane and were introduced during the British rule.
If he is not released by tomorrow, Left parties, along with other supporters, will launch stringent agitation, he cautioned.
