Mid-day meal workers threaten to launch cease-work from Jan 15

Mid Day Meal Workers Union has announced that all midday meal cooks will not perform their duties until and unless the authorities concerned pay off the pending honorarium from April last year.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the union president Y Indrani said that even though the Central Government has released the honorarium for the mid day mea cooks, the cooks of Manipur have been yet to receive the honorarium till date.
The mid day meal workers had appealed to the Chief Minister, Education Minister and all the authorities concerned regarding the matter but to no avail.
There are a total of 6951 mid day meal workers in Manipur, Indrani said adding that the cooks are provided honorarium for 10 months in a year.
The cooks are even participating in cooking competitions which are organised as a part of the School Fagathansi Mission of the Government.
The honorarium of the midday meal workers in other State have been increased but the honorarium of the mid day meal workers in Manipur is just Rs 4000 per month.
Even this meagre amount is not being paid to the workers by the Government till date, she alleged.
The schools will begin their session from January 15 but until and unless the pending honorarium is paid off, the mid day workers will not cook, she warned, adding that the union will take necessary actions against those school authority who are found hiring other cooks.
