Imphal, March 10 2016:
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has sanctioned necessary funds for construction of a new building of RIMS Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, Forensic Medicine Department and Community Medicine Department, informed a well placed source.
Although the source refused to divulge the exact amount sanctioned by the Ministry for construction of the three buildings, it is being speculated that amount sanctioned is Rs 200 crore approximately.
The new buildings would not only be additional assets of the medical institution but they would also help a lot in catering to the growing demands for health care services .
Notably, it is RIMS which is drawing the maximum number of patients from all Government and private hospitals of the State.
The new building for Obstetrics and Gynaecology is targeted for completion within three years.
Once the new building is completed, the highly congested OPD section would be expanded.
Moreover, information, communication and education facilities would be opened so as to inform pregnant women all the dos and don'ts regarding their diets, physical activities etc.
The number of beds placed inside the ward would also be increased.
After the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department is shifted to the new building, the existing semi-pucca building which is almost 40 years old would be dismantled.
Not only Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, many other departments and wards are old semi-pucca buildings.
Among different departments of RIMS, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department is one department which is drawing maximum number of patients.
The number of patients who come to the department has risen.
Nowadays, around 550 patients come to the department every day on the average.
Such a large number of patients often compels RIMS authority to extend the OPD hours up to 2.30 pm which otherwise should be closed at 1 pm.
Compared to the ever increasing number of patients, the 40 year old OPD block looks ill-fitting.
It is said that a proposal has been submitted to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to provide necessary fund for replacing all old buildings with new ones in phase manner.
