Armed persons thrash workers

Imphal, March 10 2016:
10 workers engaged in the construction of a
mini dam in Heirok river near Heirok Part-2 Chingol Melei
Lampak in Thoubal district have been severely beaten up by around
six armed miscreants at around 3 pm today.
The armed persons also took away Rs 2.50 lakh kept at the
makeshift workers' camp for payment of wages.
They not only opened some rounds of fire in the air but
also took away six mobile phones from the workers and some
youths who came to the area for a picnic before they left the
area.
One of the workers said that 19 of them are staying in
the makeshift camp.
As they suspended construction work today due to rain,
only 10 of them were there in the camp.
At around 3 pm, the armed persons came there and told
them that they would not be allowed to continue their work
there.
The armed persons then thrashed them severely and
took away Rs 2.50 lakh kept inside the camp for distribution
of workers' wages, he said.

Hemanta rushed to the area and investigated the incident.
