Van driver shot at, Pallel protests

Imphal, March 10 2016:
A passenger van driver has been shot at by unknown persons at Pallel bazar, a few metres away from Pallel police station, at around 8.55 am today.
The injured driver has been identified as Lanu Rangneisek (35) s/o Lanu Leishung of Aimol Kombirei village.
The miscreants fired around four rounds at him while he was waiting for passengers there.
The driver fell on the ground after he was hit by two bullets on the left side of his body.
The miscreants managed to escape after injuring Rangneisek although some people chased them.
The injured driver was immediately evacuated to Shija hospital in Imphal.
Hospital sources said that Rangneisak's condition is still critical although the bullets have been removed from his body.
Large police forces of Chandel and Thoubal districts led by their SPs conducted a massive manhunt to nab the attackers.
Soon after the incident, IGP S Ibocha also rushed to the incident site from Imphal to take stock of the situation.
No arrest has been reported till the time of filing this report.
Tension gripped Aimol dominated areas of Pallel after the incident.
Shops at Pallel bazar remained shut after the incident.
Womenfolk who came on the street to protest the incident asked the group concerned not to carry out such insensible attacks at crowded areas.
Aimol people of Kumbirei, Chingnungkhut, Khunjai, Satu and Aimol Tampak along with people from other Naga tribes staged a sit-in-protest at Pallel bazar.
A large number of police personnel have been deployed to thwart unwanted incidents.
Pallel police have taken up a case regarding the incident.
