Bio-specimens workshop concludes

An eight-day long workshop on Conservation and Preservation of Biological Specimens held under the aegis of Manipur State Museum, Department of Art and Culture, Manipur was concluded today with a function at the Auditorium of Manipur State Museum.
The workshop was attended by 30 persons including 25 students of Liberal College.
The participants were imparted on means to conserve and preserve fish, birds and eggs.
The same were exhibited today during the closing function of the workshop.
The valedictory function was graced by Dr RK Nimai, Commissioner of Art and Culture; and Dr K Sobita, Director of Art and Culture as the chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr RK Nimai noted that man has ruined the environment around him recklessly causing the extinction of many plants, animals and fishes.
Even plants or trees that once flourished in plenty were extinct today.
Cautioning that the extinction of plants and animals is not a welcome development, Dr Nimai urged all concerned to join hands in conserving them.
He said the museum makes concerted attempt to preserve the biological spe-cimen of those plants and animals on the brink of extinction and extinct ones.
He said the effort could be materialised by inculcating on the minds of the students.
Dr K Sobita outlined that the workshop was organised to instill the importance of preserving and conserving biological specimens.
A handbook entitled 'Guide Book of Natural History' published by the Manipur State Museum was also released during the function.
