The State Cabinet has given its consent to fill up all vacant posts in Manipur Fire Service Department for development of the department in accordance with the changing needs of time.
A Cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi this afternoon adopted a resolution towards this end.
Another resolution of the Cabinet meeting was provision of monthly pension to living World War II veterans of the State.
Briefing media persons after the meeting, Government spokesman and Education Minister M Okendro said that fire tenders have been severely hampered during rescue operations at times of fire mishaps and other disasters due to acute shortage of staff.
Taking into account all the vacant posts and new posts which should be created for the newly set up fire sub-stations of Noney, Saikul, Tadubi and Yairipok, the total number of requisite staff is 149.All these posts would be filled up through direct recruitment, according to a Cabinet resolution adopted today.
These include 67 posts of Fireman.
Stating that 18 World War II veterans are still alive, Okendro informed about the Cabinet decision to give them monthly pension of Rs 1200 each.
The practice of giving pension to war veterans is also prevalent in Mizoram and the pension amounts are also equal.
Recruitment of replacement staff after expiry or retirement of contract staff in different departments would no longer require the State Cabinet's permission.
The State Cabinet has also agreed to hike the Unemployment Allowance given to disabled persons by Social Welfare Department.
The total number of disabled persons currently receiving Unemployment Allowance is 387.They are given monthly allowance of Rs 100 to Rs 200 in accordance with their educational qualifications.
The revised allowance as approved by the State Cabinet is Rs 400 for Under Graduates, Rs 500 for Graduates and Rs 600 for Post Graduates and above.
