Proposed strike over 7th Pay put on hold

Imphal, March 07 2018: A team of Manipur Government Services Federation, led by its president, met Chief Minister N Biren Singh at the Chief Minister's Secretariat today and discussed about implementation of the 7th Pay Commission's recommendations with regard to State Government employees.

During the meeting, the CM assured to implement 7th pay for the State Government employees at the earliest, despite the current economical condition of the State.

The federation has also decided to put on hold its proposed indefinite cease work strike till March 16, after the CM assured to pressure Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce implementation of 7th Pay for the State Government employees during his visit to the State on March 16.According to a source from the Manipur Government Services Federation, Chief Minister N Biren Singh along with Chief Secretary RR Rashmi, Principal Secretary (Finance) Vivek Kumar Dewangan, Secretary (Finance) Limneikim Singshat, Deputy Secretary (PIC) Fimate and other officials from the State Government's side and the federation president Dr Rajendra, general secretary Purujit Lairikyengbam, advisor Yaima and 17 other delegates took part in the meeting.

The source mentioned tnat the federation had earlier announced its decision to launch an indefinite cease work strike, but later decided to put it on hold, after the CM proposed a discussion regarding implementation of the 7th Pay for the State Government employees and pensioners.

The source pointed out that during the meeting, the CM explained that it would cost around Rs 1200 crore per year, for the State to give the 7th Pay to the employees and the figure would rise to around Rs 1400 crore per annum when employees under local bodies and grant-in-aid are taken into account.

The CM also assured to urge the Central Government to earmark the additional expenditure that would be borne by the State Government in paying the 7th Pay in the 15th Finance Commission's award.

N Biren further assured that he would urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce implementation of the 7th pay for the State employees with effect from January 2016, during his visit to the State on March 16, the source added.

The CM further informed the federation that he would go to Delhi and meet the PM, prior to his visit to the State, to discuss the matter.

The source explained that an emergency meeting was held in the federation's office at around 2 pm today, following the development with the State Government and the federation decided to put on hold its proposed indefinite cease work strike till March 16 .

The federation will observe whether any announcement regarding implementation of the 7th pay in the State is made on the said date, and it would take up necessary steps as per the development, the source added.
