Total voters reach 17 lakh

Electoral rolls of the 60 Assembly Constituencies of Manipur were released today.
As listed in the electoral rolls, the total number of voters in the State has grown by 48,339 to 17,64,122 from the previous figure.
Announcing the new figure before media persons at his office today, Chief Electoral Officer O Nabakishore said that the electoral rolls were compiled based on the special summary revision conducted with January 1, 2015 as the qualifying date with due approval of the Election Commission of India.
Till last year, the total number of male voters was 8,52,818 while female voters numbered 8,86,089.The corresponding figures for this year are 8,64,122 and 9,00,000 respectively which imply a growth rate of 2.78 per cent.
Subsequent upon the re-survey done at three sub-divisions of Senapati district where abnormal growth rate was detected during periodic census operations, the electors-population ratio has come down to 58:100 from last year's ratio of 60:100, said the CEO.
Voters in the age group of 18-19 years constitute 1.22 per cent of the total number of electorate.
As instructed by the Election Commission of India, an intensive revision of electoral rolls is being undertaken to enrol service voters of the State working in armed forces like CRPF, BSF etc before January 31, Nabakishore added.
