Imphal, July 03 2017:
Responding to the standing decision of the Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur (LNC-M) and the subsequent “request to any Liangmai individual serving in any Zeliangrong organisation to withdraw his or her position” from the latter (any Zeliangrong) organisation immediately, three Liangmai leaders serving in Zeliangrong Union (ZU) have resigned from their respective posts on Monday .
Poukenpon Newmai, vice president of ZU (Manipur), Ch Champonbou, chairman of ZU (Tamei Zone) and Changchapbou Newmai, secretary of ZU (Tamei Zone) have resigned from their posts saying that their move was “in compliance” with the standing decision of the Liangmai People’s Convention held on October 9, 2015 at Konsaram village and the consequent standing decision of the Liangmai Naga Council (LNC) on the issue .
A few days ago, the Liangmai Naga Council had “requested”any Liangmai individual associated with any Zeliangrong organisation to withdraw his or her position from the latter organisation immediately .
The Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur (LNC-M) had also written to the Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) and Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) 'requesting' the two bodies to strike out "liang" from the nomenclature Zeliangrong .
The LNC(M) also had said that "we have no other option but to disassociate ourselves from every social organization of the erstwhile Zeliangrong bodies".
The Liangmai apex body also had explained the reasons for its move in its letters to the Zeliangrong Baudi and Zeliangrong Union.
