Consequent upon the arrest of one suspect behind the killing of HSO president Palal Haokip, the KSO general headquarters has called off its proposed State-wide general strike earlier announced to be enforced from midnight of July 4 .
The general strike was not an 'indefinite general strike', as reported earlier, but a 'sustained general strike' which was to be continued till the killers are arrested and brought to justice, a statement issued by the president of KSO-Ghqs Paotinthang Lupheng said .
The KSO lauded the Imphal West police, headed by its SP, which was instrumental in apprehending the killer.
The KSO hopes that with the arrest of the killer, the authority will certainly arrest the other killers and unearth the conspiracy behind the assassination to the satisfaction of the family, the CSOs and the public, it said .
It is unfortunate that the society is being forced to live with the evil of gun culture.
It can be seen that wanton killings have become more and more frequent in the land .
'What the KSO desires is a peaceful society where rule of law prevails.
The people need to be shown that the Government is in control.
The Government has to create a situation where guilty criminals find it impossible to escape the long arm of the law.
In this way a semblance of law and order can only be restored,' it said .
It should be noted that the Government’s failure to solve many killing incidents in the past has only encouraged gun culture and more wanton killings in the society, it added .
The KSO’s decision to go ahead with its sustained general strike was to force the hands of the Government to act, so that there can be rule of law and justice in the land.
The people of the land have become totally fed up with wanton killings and gun culture.
