Imphal, July 03 2017:
Takhellambam Mandakini's music album 'Old is Gold' was released a function at Hotel Kristina today.
The audio cassette is produced by Rabishankar for Relief Centre for Welfare of Differently-abled Persons.
Parliamentary secretary of MAHUD, Nahakpam Indrajit; former president of the centre Ch Opendro; Dhanabir Laishram, Social Scientist; professor of department of community medicine Dr Th Achouba; and state commissioner for persons with disabilities Dr RK Kumarjit were among the key invitees present at the release.
In his key note address, programme consultant RN Koireng said the centre has been continuously taking up welfare programmes for persons with disabilities (PWD) since its inception in 2011 and will carry on the same course in the future.
As a non profit organization and without taking any financial assistance from the government, the centre organised Winter Disabled Mela every year and the event has become a valuable platform for PWD to exhibit their skills, particularly in the fields of handloom and handicraft, and provides the opportunity to market their finished products, he stated.
The production of Old is Gold was sponsored by RCWDP as part of its commitment to showcase the hidden talent of PWD, Koireng stated and expressed hope that it will be helpful in bringing forward the grievances faced by them and pressing the administration to implement the Rights of Person with Disabilities Act 2016 .
Dhanabir said local artistes will flourish to unprecedented levels in their fields and achieve prosperity if emphasis is given on popularization of folk songs and they are marketed to south east Asian countries.
Instead of blindly following the trends of popular Bollywood and Hindustani music, it will eventually prove to be beneficial if we concentrate on our indigenous music and create a niche in the South Asian music market, he stated.
Many eminent musicians spoke words of encouragement for both Mandakini and Rabishanker on their excellent records in their careers overcoming the odds of being visually impaired.
