Two more hostels for NE women coming up at Delhi

A Working Women's Hostel for those hailing from the North Eastern States will be inaugurated in this month at New Delhi.
Bijoy Krishna Handique, Union Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) here on Tuesday said "This will greatly help the working women from the Region in terms of safety and comfort" .
The 500 capacity Working Women's Hostel in Jasola here was funded by Ministry of DoNER through the North Eastern Council (NEC) in association with the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
Total Cost of the project was Rs.17.44 crores wherein the share of NEC was 25% .
Land cost for the hostel had been shared between NEC and Ministry of Women and Child Development on a 50-50 basis.
Handique had been in touch with Krishna Tirath, Minister of State for Women & Child Development to make the hostel functional at the earliest.
Shri Handique also stated that construction works for another hostel named Rajiv Gandhi Girls Hostel at the Delhi University Campus were in progress to a major extent, which would accommodate 500 Tribal Girl Students from the NE Region.
The Girls Hostel was being constructed at a total cost of Rs.23.33 Crores jointly shared between NEC and Ministry of Tribal Affairs on 60:40 basis, and would be completed within this financial year.
It was located at Dhaka Housing Complex, University of Delhi; Banda Bahadur Marg, New Delhi.
The NEC had already released 11.50 Crores towards this hostel project.
Apart from these two hostels, there was already a fully functional 500seat girls hostel at Delhi University North Campus wholly funded by Ministry of DoNER.
Delhi University estimates that over 10,000 undergraduate students from outside Delhi are admitted every year in the university-affiliated colleges.
Delhi University does not offer any hostel accommodation at the undergraduate level, only individual colleges provide hostel facilities.
Foreign students are accommodated at International Student's Hostel.
Foreign girl students are accommodated in PG Women's Hostel.
The capacity of college hostels is limited, accommodating less than 20% of all hostel applications.
Out of the 13 hostels available for undergraduate students in Delhi University, 11 are in North Campus colleges and 2 are off campus.
