HC stays beneficiaries list

An order of the Imphal Bench of the Gauhati High Court has stayed the list of the beneficiaries under Integra-ted Housing and Slum Development Programme to be implemented in Kakching Municipal Area.
In connection with implementation of the programme launched under the Ministry of Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation in Kakching Municipal area, the State Government had constituted a committee headed by Joint Secretary of MAHUD as Chairman for selection of the beneficiaries.
Subsequently, the Committee submitted a list of 548 beneficiaries to the Government with the approval of the then Council last year.
When the Town Planning Department asked for the response of the Executive Officer of the Council on the genuineness of the list, the latter had also responded in affirmation.
However, after a new Council was sworn in , a new list with 158 beneficiaries deleted from the earlier list was submitted to the Town Planning again.
Objecting to the deletion without furnishing any reason, 10 individuals filed a complaint with the Gauhati High Court.
In the hearing of the case yesterday, Justice T Nandakumar of the Imphal Bench of the Gauhati High Court passed an order staying implementation of the new list until a further order is issued.
Advocate Khaidem Mani appeared in the case on behalf of the petitioners.
The respondents in the case include Commissioner (MAHUD), Chief Town Planner, Executive Officer of Kakching Municipal Council, Secretary of Ministry of Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation and 552 other respondents.
