Imphal, March 01 2013:
Failure of the State Government to nab the real owners/smugglers of the huge consignment of drugs seized from airport and Pallel despite people's mass movement towards this end only indicates that there is no semblance of governance in the State, asserted BJP Manipur unit president Thounaojam Chaoba.
A 35-member delegation of the State BJP unit headed by Th Chaoba left for Delhi to take part in the BJP national council meeting which starts tomorrow.
Speaking to media persons at their Nityaipat Chuthek office before leaving for Delhi, Chaoba stated he would raise the issues of physical and sexual assault on North East people at Delhi, drug smuggling in Manipur, empowerment of local self government during the two day national council meeting.
In the aftermath of the seizure of drugs worth Rs 25 crores at Pallel, son of a Congress MLA was also apprehended with drugs but the monetary value of the drugs seized from the MLA's son has not been disclosed so far.
The recent exposure about the involvement of army officer, airport officials and MLA's son implies that the illegal business of drugs has been going on for a long time.
Under such circumstances, the Congress party's silence is questionable if they have any hidden agenda.
Taking strong exception to the decision to hold the Assembly session only for three days in spite of the myriad issues happening in the State, Chaoba expressed his desire to the extend the session for some more days so that some of the important issues can be discussed threadbare on the floor of the Assembly.
