Noted film maker Aribam Syam and other film directors and producers of Manipuri films screened in the International Film Festival of India, Goa and Mumbai International Film Festival were felicitated at JN Manipur Dance Academy here today.
The felicitation function organised by the Manipur Film Development Corporation was graced by Chief Minister O Ibobi, Commissioner (Art and Culture) P Bharat and Chief Producer of Mumbai Films Division Kuldeep Sinha as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Presenting the prestigious Dr V Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award to Aribam Syam, Chief Minister O Ibobi observed that it's time to encourage young film makers of the State to produce quality films.
Hailing Syam for his outstanding achievement as a film maker, Ibobi assured all possible assistance to film producers of the State.
Speaking at the occasion, Syam noted that Manipuri films will be appreciated world wide if film makers of the State can reflect native ethos and indigenous elements of Manipuri society in their films.
He also exhorted the film makers of the State to put in more efforts and to produce quality films.
Other directors and producers who were felicitated by the MFDC include Makhon Mani Nongshaba (for the film Yening Amadi Likla), Paban Haobam (Lambishida Ngaihaktang) Ronel Haobam (Nongpok Thong Ngakpa), Bobby Wahengbam (Joseph Ki Macha), Yengkhom Romabai (Jagoida Kathoklabi Surjamukhi) and G Nirmalkumar (Aribam Syam Sharma).
The function culminated with the release of a documentary film titled Govinda Nirupon.
The film was directed by Commissioner Bharat and produced the by MFDC.
